The Broken Hill Heritage Walk Tour offers visitors an engaging introduction to the city's rich history, architecture and cultural identity. Led by knowledgeable local volunteer guides, the tour provides a clear and enjoyable overview of the people, places and events that shaped Australia's first heritage‑listed city.

What sets this experience apart is its blend of storytelling and place‑based interpretation. Our guides share insights into Broken Hill's mining origins, union legacy and artistic character while highlighting significant buildings, streetscapes and public spaces. The tour brings to life the city's evolution from a remote mining settlement to a nationally recognised centre for heritage, art and outback culture, making it an ideal first activity for new arrivals.

Starting from the Broken Hill Visitor Information Centre, the route follows flat, accessible footpaths suitable for most visitors, and the tour's relaxed pace allows time to appreciate architectural details and historic landmarks. Along the way, participants learn surprising stories about early residents, community milestones and the unique design elements that define the city's character.

With its combination of expert guidance, central location and meaningful local stories, the Broken Hill Heritage Walk Tour invites travellers to deepen their connection to the outback city and explore more during their stay.

Bookings essential. The tour is not running during the summer months.

Pass down streets named after metals, minerals and compounds, giving you a flavour of how the city and its distinctive culture developed on the back of the mining boom. You'll also learn from the knowledgeable guides how the city's past and present are deeply entwined.
