If you’re someone who enjoys meeting people, sharing stories, and showing off the best of our region, volunteering with us is a rewarding way to give back to your community.

Why Volunteer?

Our volunteers help visitors connect with the heart of Australia’s First Heritage‑Listed City. You’ll:

Training, support and uniforms are provided. You don’t need tourism experience—just enthusiasm, reliability and a love for Broken Hill.

Volunteer Roles

City Ambassadors

Be the friendly local face visitors meet on Argent Street, at the VIC, or during major events like the Mundi Mundi Bash. Ambassadors welcome visitors, answer questions, offer recommendations and help people feel at home in our city. Commitment: Minimum 3 hours per week, with training and ongoing support.

Heritage Walk Tour Guides

Bring Broken Hill’s stories to life on our daily CBD walking tours. Guides follow a set route and script but add their own personality, knowledge and flair. Commitment: Monthly roster, with training and familiarisation provided.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need formal qualifications—just:

  • Good communication and people skills

  • A friendly, welcoming attitude

  • Reliability and willingness to learn

  • A reasonable level of fitness for walking or standing

  • Interest in Broken Hill and the Far West Background checks may be required depending on the role.
