Broken Hill has a hot desert climate. Winter is relatively mild and dry, although the night and early morning can be cold with moderate frost, while summers are highly variable – mostly hot and dry with some variation (summer storms with high humidity are not uncommon). The average maximum during the summer months is about 33°C with an average of 35% humidity, although occasional rainfall and cooler weather occur. The coldest month, July, averages a high of 16°C and a low of 5°C.

The average yearly rainfall is 225mm, the highest temperature recorded in Broken Hill was 46.3°C (16^th January 2019) and the lowest -2.9°C (1^st July 2017).
