This shop on the corner of Lane Street is typical of the Victorian period and reflects the architecture of the time. It is a local shop built of stone, with simple brick pediment and iron verandah.
During this time the shops were small and basic, most family-run businesses specialising in one range of goods, like a blacksmith, clothing store, pharmacy or general store. Early retail in Broken Hill relied heavily on the mining economy.
